Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he liked participating in numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very competitive in these particular card games as he was playing his dad. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a bit and relocated to New York to compete in some serious chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were difficult as he played extensive hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He earned some extra money by being an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he possibly could boost his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to acquire more sleep and focus attention even more on poker.
The real improvement in his game began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would regularly compete against each other. He was able to access a number of the best players in chess. With their assistance, he would tweak his strategic thinking techniques. Howard used these strategic ideas in the game of No-Limit holdem.
He also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Vegas and play in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the best women players the poker arena has ever seen. He headed to Sin City in 1993 and played money games for the subsequent decade. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
