Omaha Hi/Low: Fundamental Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure variation, has expanded in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better begins like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of betting ensues where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. Another round of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, a further card is revealed on the turn. Another round of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The players will have to put together the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a number of entrants can get baffled. Contrasted to Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to use exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the strongest hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same notion in just about all poker games.
The lower hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the play. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the entire pot.
It may seem complicated initially, after a few hands you will be agile enough to get the base nuances of play easily enough. Since you have people betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better offers an exciting array of wagering options and because you have many players shooting for the high hand, and a few trying for the low. If you enjoy a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha hi/lo.
