Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he enjoyed betting on different card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting really aggressive in these card games as he was competing against his father. After finishing high school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a bit and relocated to New York to play some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he would play extensive hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He earned some extra cash by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more sleep and focus even more on poker.

The real improvement in his skills began when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would regularly challenge each other. Howard had access into a few of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, he would tweak his strategic thinking skills. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL holdem.

Howard Lederer also helped his sibling Annie Duke master poker. She was a superb student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie is one of the best female players the poker world today. Howard Lederer headed to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and played money games for the subsequent 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
