Omaha Hi Low: Fundamental Outline

Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but well-loved poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha Hi-Lo starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of wagering follows where gamblers can wager, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of betting ensues. After all the players have either called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. Another sequence of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a number of players often get confused. Unlike Texas Holdem, where the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player has to utilize exactly three cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the best hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the same approach in just about all poker games.
The low hand is more complex, but certainly free’s up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand wins the complete pot.
While it seems complex at first, following a few rounds you will be able to get the fundamental subtleties of play simply enough. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 offers an exciting array of betting possibilities and seeing that you have several individuals battling for the high, as well as several trying for the low hand.
