Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world may be guys you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly competes in big stakes Omaha and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in money rounds?
