Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While betting on online poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Gus is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Buying in for the minimum takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I think tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen gambling on web poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes Omaha and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
