Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he liked participating in various card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very aggressive in these card games while competing against his father. After finishing high school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little while and relocated to New York City to play some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the back of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were rough as he would play countless hours and do not win a majority of the time. He made some additional money by becoming an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He theorized he could boost his game by balancing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to get more sleep and focus attention even more on the game.
The actual advancement in his game happened when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would often challenge one another. He had access into a few of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would sharpen his logical thinking techniques. Howard used these strategy concepts in the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.
Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was an excellent student of the game as she would always be asking questions about how to make the proper choice. He told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker competition. She is one of the greatest female players the poker world ever. He relocated to Las Vegas in 1993 and played cash games for the subsequent decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
